The Box is running a Bitesize session on Echoes of Us on Wednesday 5 August, from 13:00 to 13:45. It's a guided walk through the exhibition, led by engagement officer Tony Davey, who takes you from piece to piece and talks through what's on display and the context behind the selection. If you've been through the galleries on your own and wondered why certain works were picked, this is the one that fills in the gaps.
Echoes of Us draws on one of the most significant collections of British art in the world, and it's hung around three themes: Belonging, Memory and Connection. The range of work is what stands out — it spans centuries, from a 17th-century portrait by Sir Godfrey Kneller to a 2025 sculpture by the artist collective Keiken. Seeing those two side by side is a good way to get a sense of how the exhibition works, pulling together pieces from completely different eras to look at the same questions.
During the session, Davey leads the group through the artworks, explaining what you're looking at and the thinking that went into the selection. It's a 45-minute run, so it's a concentrated look rather than a slow wander, and it's designed to give you a handle on the whole show in one go.
