Beryl Cook Comedy Tour

The Beryl Cook Comedy Tour is back in Plymouth on Saturday 25 July, a walking tour that celebrates the life and work of Beryl Cook, the artist famous for her paintings of 'ordinary people enjoying themselves'. If you've seen her work, you'll know the type: those plump, joyful figures having a proper laugh, usually in the middle of a dance floor or a crowded pub. This tour takes you through the corners of the city that inspired her, so you're seeing the actual streets and spots that found their way into her paintings.

It's led by Suzy Bennett, a 'Funny Women' award winner and a guide with Plymouth Comedy Tours. Along the way, you'll stop to meet the colourful characters Cook immortalised in sculptures around the city, and you'll encounter the kind of lively locals she would have been keen to sketch. The route takes you across The Hoe and through the Barbican, so it's a good stretch of the city to cover on foot. It's as much about the people you see as the art you're talking about.

Bennett has a fair few people talking her up, too. Metro called her 'delightful company', Russell Kane described her as 'a charm bomb', and Davina McCall said she's 'very, very funny'.
