Plymouth Comedy Tours are taking to the streets for the Beryl Cook Comedy Tour, a walking tour celebrating the life and work of the Plymouth artist Beryl Cook. It starts and finishes at The Box on Tavistock Place, and the first one kicks off this Saturday, 27 June, from 10:30 to 12:30. If you can't make this one, it runs again on 25 July, 29 August, and 26 September, all on Saturdays at the same time.

Leading the way is Suzy Bennett, a Funny Women award winner known around here as 'Proper Janner'. The route takes you through The Hoe and the Barbican, two of the spots Beryl loved, and stops in front of the characters she immortalised in sculpture across the city, as well as the kind of local haunts she would have loved to draw. It's a celebration of her work and her life, told through the city she knew so well.
Bennett's got a bit of a reputation for the comic side of things: Metro called her 'delightful company', Russell Kane described her as a 'charm bomb', and Davina McCall just put 'very, very funny'. The tour holds a five-star rating on TripAdvisor, and it's aimed at adults who enjoy comedy, art, and a guided walk, with a festive, family-friendly feel to it.
It's a paid event, and you get a treat to go with the tour: the Comedy Tour plus a hot drink and cake is £25, or you can upgrade to an alcoholic drink and cake for £27.50. The whole thing runs from 10:30 to 12:30, starting and ending at The Box.
