& Sons arrives at Plymouth Arts Cinema on Friday 4 September, with screenings running through to Thursday 10 September. It's a darkly comedic drama from director Pablo Trapero, set in the UK and running for 120 minutes. The story follows a world-renowned but reclusive novelist who's convinced he's about to die. He summons his estranged sons back to his home, and instead of asking for forgiveness for their shattered family, he reveals an unbelievable secret that could rewrite their past.
The cast is a heavy one. Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton, both Academy Award nominees, lead the way, with BAFTA winner Dominic West, BAFTA nominee George MacKay, and rising star Noah Jupe. They're joined by Johnny Flynn, Arthur Conti and Anna Geislerová. With a name like that on the bill, it's a good idea to pick your session early.
There are five screenings to choose from: Friday 4 September at 8:30pm, Saturday 5 September at 5:30pm, Tuesday 8 September at 8:30pm, Wednesday 9 September at 2:30pm — that one has descriptive subtitles — and Thursday 10 September at 6:00pm. Standard tickets are £9.50, with matinees at £7.50 and over 66s at £8.50. Under 25s, students, AUP staff and those on a budget get it for £5.00, as do Bringing in Baby and family screenings. Friends get a 10% discount and £6.50 on Tuesdays, and there are free tickets for companions, personal assistants or carers accompanying disabled customers or CEA card holders. Online bookings add a £1.50 booking fee per transaction, which is waived for members.
