The West End Carnival is returning to Plymouth's independent quarter this summer, bringing its traditional mix of street performances, music, and community celebration. Scheduled for Saturday 29 August 2026, from 11:00 to 16:00, this free event is organised by the Plymouth City Centre Company and part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The festivities will stretch across the West End, focusing around Frankfort Gate, Cornwall Street, New George Street, Market Avenue, and inside Plymouth Market. It is a straightforward, family-friendly day out designed to showcase the local independent scene.

The day kicks off at 11:00 with the carnival parade starting at Frankfort Gate. The procession will make its way up New George Street to the Piazza before heading back to Frankfort Gate by 12:00. Attendees can expect to see the Crooked Tempo Samba Band, stilt-walkers, circus performers, puppets, and Taiko drummers. Meanwhile, the main stage at Frankfort Gate will host live music and circus acts throughout the afternoon. Along the streets, there will be vintage cars, street theatre, face painting, and appearances by popular children's characters.
Plymouth Market, which has been a staple of the city centre since 1959, serves as a central hub for the carnival. Inside, visitors will find free face painting, character meet-and-greets, and more than 140 stalls, eateries, and cafes. The market is normally open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 17:00 (closing at 16:30 on Wednesdays). For those driving, parking is available at the dedicated Plymouth Market car park via Cornwall Street, as well as the nearby Western Approach and former Toys 'R' Us car parks. Outside the market, local businesses and street food vendors will set up stalls offering various international cuisines and event promotions.
