The first thing you notice is the atmosphere. It is relaxed and intimate, with dim lighting and two floors to spread across, and the real draw is the balcony, which gives you a proper view across Plymouth Sound. It is licensed for evening meals and takes groups, and it doubles as a venue for private functions, weddings and corporate events, so it works as well for a quiet dinner as it does for a larger get-together. If you are bringing a group, there is a £5 per person deposit for bookings of more than six, which is worth knowing before you commit to a big table.
The menu is built around authentic Spanish tapas, seafood paella and a wide selection of Spanish wines, and it is the sort of place where you are meant to order a few things and share. Gambas al ajillo, churros and chorizo are the standouts. To start, there are tortas de pan and pan de ajo at £5.50 each, pan con tomate at £6.50, aceitunas at £6 and a table of cured meats and cheeses at £13. The paella of the day comes in at £7.50, and the cheese section covers brie dorado empanado at £7, croquettas de jamon y queso at £7.50 and queso de cabra at £8.
On the meat side, you have chorizo n chilli patatas and albondigas both at £7, chorizo en vino tinto y miel at £8.50 and pollo marinado at £8. The fish is equally well represented: el chanquete entero at £7.50, calamares fritos at £8, gambas al ajillo at £9, sardinas a la plancha at £8 and tiras de lubina at £8. If you are vegan, there is plenty to choose from, with patatas bravas, patatas fritas, verduras mediterraneo, champiñones con perejil y ajo, berenjena al ajillo, calabacín con mojo verde, pan de ajo vegano, ensalada mixta and coliflor marinado all at £6.50. Ciabatta, aioli dip and mojo verde are each £1.50, and for dessert there are churros at £7, a traditional Irish coffee at £8 and an affogato at £4.50.
