Bergerac: where the reboot filmed in Plymouth

If you've been keeping an eye on the University of Plymouth campus lately, you might have noticed it doubling as something rather different. The reboot of the classic 1980s crime drama Bergerac, with Damien Molony taking over the title role of Jim Bergerac, has been filming across the South West as well as in Jersey, and Plymouth played a surprisingly large part in it.

The filming took place back in August 2025, when the university campus was effectively turned into a Jersey police headquarters. The Immersive Vision Theatre was reimagined as a police public service centre, and Mary Newman Hall, one of the halls of residence, stood in as a police station. Over at Central Park, a fleet of production vehicles with BTFS branding took up residence, with parking restrictions in place until 10 August. It's the kind of thing that goes unnoticed at the time, but it's worth knowing where to look once the episodes actually land.

On screen, the cast is a familiar one. Philip Glenister plays Arthur Wakefield, and if he looks like he's been in a police drama before, that's because he has: he's best known as Gene Hunt in Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. Jonathan Aris, who you might recognise from The Night Manager and Sherlock, plays Superintendent Richard Gibbon, and Robert Gilbert, from Killing Eve and Big Boys, is Barney Crozier. The show is written by Toby Whithouse and directed by Colm McCarthy, and it's produced by BlackLight TV.

As for where you can actually watch it, the series streams on the U&Drama platform and is available on UKTV's U service. The first season, six episodes long, premiered on 27 February 2025, and the second followed on 16 April 2026. A third series was announced in August 2026, with Georgia Tennant and Jason Flemyng joining the cast, so there's more on the way.

It's worth noting that while Plymouth provided the police interiors, a lot of the show's coastal character comes from Jersey, which has invested £1.8 million to support the production. Locations over there include Bouley Bay, St Ouen's Bay, St Brelade's Bay, Gorey pier, the Driftwood Café on Archirondel Beach, Royal Square in St Helier, the Victoria College grounds, La Pulente restaurant doubling as The Jersey Club, and La Rocco Tower. The filming itself started in Jersey in the summer of 2024 before moving on to the South West.

So, next time you're passing Mary Newman Hall or the Immersive Vision Theatre, you'll know they've stood in for a police station and a public service centre in a show that's quietly making the most of the South West's backdrop. With a third series on the horizon, it's a nice bit of local trivia to have handy when the next batch of episodes arrives.
