Michael Lewis presents his new book 'Blockers', a look at the early days of Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, at Carnegie Music Hall.
Michael Lewis is coming to Carnegie Music Hall on Monday, October 26, to talk about his newest book, Blockers. It's a look at the early days of Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, and Lewis will be presenting it in person.
The evening is part of Ten Evenings, one of the signature programs run by Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures. If you're not familiar, PAL is a non-profit literary arts organization that's been around since 1991, and Ten Evenings is their gathering at Carnegie Music Hall built around storytelling, inquiry, and conversation with some of the most compelling voices working today. The series pulls from across the board—fiction, poetry, journalism, history, science, and biography—so Lewis fits right into that mix.
As for the book itself, Blockers focuses on the Department of Government Efficiency, the Trump administration's effort to cut government spending and shrink the federal bureaucracy. Lewis has made a career out of taking complex systems—whether it's the bond market, the world of professional sports, or the inner workings of the financial system—and turning them into readable stories about the people caught up in them. This one puts his attention on the early days of that department, so you can expect him to walk through how it started and the people who were there when it all kicked off.
