Free all-day music listening sessions by Sweet Abyss residents, with live DJ sets, 'Show and Tell' slots and an all-day visual mixtape, as part of the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair.
Sweet Abyss is taking over the Carnegie Music Hall Foyer on Sunday, November 1, for a day of listening sessions that run from 10 AM to 5 PM. It's the second day of programming at the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair, presented by Sweet Abyss in partnership with the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Fair itself.
The sessions are hosted by the collective's residents—Kiernan Laveaux, Malzof, Davis Galvin, and Carrie Sours—and the music draws on a following of artists and movement shakers. Sweet Abyss describes itself as centering people who run afoul of societal expectations, and the sound they play covers a wide range of synth-wave, trip hop, dub, disco, and electronic explorations. It's a long day of DJ sets, so you can drop in whenever you like rather than sticking around for the whole thing.
Two things set this apart from a standard DJ lineup. First, there are 'Show and Tell' slots at 11:30 AM and 3 PM, when the floor opens up for people to share art-book media. Second, a visual mixtape by Jules 'Malzof' Malice will be projected throughout the day. Malice is a co-founder and resident of Sweet Abyss, a multimedia artist and DJ whose work over more than 15 years has spanned video production, live visuals, painting, and installation art.

Among the residents, Kinselland (also known as Kinselland Radio) is a vinyl-driven sonic experience run by the husband-and-wife duo Anqwenique Kinsel and DS Kinsel, whose live sets draw on a family archive of inherited records. The whole day is free, from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Carnegie Music Hall Foyer.
