Art workshop for young artists aged 6 to 10 to experiment with painting, printing, sculpting and mixed media inspired by the museum galleries.
Day Off at the Museum is back at the Carnegie Museum of Art on Friday, October 23, from 9 AM to 3 PM. It's a full-day program for young artists ages 6 through 10, designed for those days when school is out and you're looking for something more than just keeping them occupied.
The day is built around getting kids to actually make things. They'll work with a variety of materials and try out new techniques—painting, printing, sculpting, and mixed media—and they'll draw inspiration from the museum's galleries, so they're not just working in a vacuum. The museum also throws in playful art and sensory challenges to keep things moving. The goal is for them to grow as artists and come home with original work they actually made themselves.
If you've got a kid who's always drawing or tinkering, this is a good way to let them run with it for a few hours. It's not a one-off, either; the program runs on several other dates throughout the year—Monday, September 21, Friday, October 2, Friday, November 27, and Monday, December 28—all from 9 AM to 3 PM, so you can pick the one that fits your schedule best. Scholarships are available, and interpretation services for children and teens can be provided upon request.
