Squirrel Flower, the project of singer-songwriter Ella Williams, plays Valley Bar with Psyko Steve, Sour Widows and Morphia Slow.
Squirrel Flower plays Valley Bar on Sunday, November 1, presented by Psyko Steve. It's the Phoenix stop of her first full-band headlining tour in two years, and she's not coming alone: Sour Widows and Morphia Slow open the night.
Squirrel Flower is the moniker of singer-songwriter Ella Williams. This tour is out in support of her new album, Say a Prayer to the Gods of Getting Going, which came out August 21 on Polyvinyl. The lead single, "Reelin," is a good place to start if you're not familiar—Williams describes it as an ode to the push and pull of domesticity, an idea sparked by a piece of art she made on an overdue Kansas Turnpike toll bill. It's the kind of specific, small-scale detail that tends to find its way into her writing.
Before this, there was Planet, her heart-rending sophomore record, and her 2020 debut, I Was Born Swimming. The new album sits alongside them, and the tour carries it through November, with Canadian dates including Toronto's Second Summer Festival, POP Montreal, and Vancouver's Wise Hall. This is the first time in two years she's been back out on the road with a full band behind her, so you'll hear the songs played out with a group rather than as solo performances.
