An LGBTQ+ townhall with a y2k 'sporty spice' theme, featuring a panel of experts, an award for best dressed and a wig-snatching competition, focused on community and November Midterm Election ballot referrals.
Gender Fabulous Playbook is an LGBTQ+ townhall taking place at Club Contact on Thursday, October 22, from 7 PM. It's presented by Mink and the Arizona Democracy Resource Center, and it's built around a y2k 'sporty spice' theme. The night is framed as an occasion for community and connection, and for getting informed about upcoming ballot referrals in the November Midterm Election.
The information part comes from a panel of experts who'll walk through those ballot referrals, including anti-trans initiatives that could impact the community. The whole thing is set up as a townhall, so it's meant for asking questions and talking through what's on the ballot before you head to the polls. The organizers describe it as a night for community and for getting informed.
Around that, there's the 'sporty spice' theme, which shows up in a few ways: there's an award for best dressed and a wig-snatching competition. The venue, Club Contact, is a futurist nightclub in downtown Phoenix, and the 21+ age limit fits the room. Between the panel and the competition, the night is as much about hanging out as it is about the voting info.
