Exclusive evening for Circles of Giving members with a first look at the Milestones exhibition, featuring a cocktail reception and hors d'oeuvres.
The Heard Museum is opening Milestones: The Hope & John L. Furth Collection with a preview for Circles of Giving members on Thursday, November 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. It's an exclusive first look, so if you're part of the museum's giving circle, you'll get to see the collection before it opens to the general public.
Milestones is part of a larger exhibition called Twilight: Trading Posts & Creative Legacies, and it's the first in a series the Heard is putting together to celebrate major gifts as it approaches its centennial anniversary. The collection itself brings together more than 260 examples of Native American art—pottery, sculpture, textiles, baskets, and beadwork—spanning from the 19th century to the present day, with significant works by leading contemporary artists. It's a wide reach, from the early pieces to the work being made right now.

The evening starts in the Crossroads Gallery with a cocktail reception and hors d'oeuvres, and from there you move into the Kitchell Gallery to see the exhibition. If you're not already familiar, the Heard is right in the heart of Phoenix and houses twelve galleries of American Indian art, ranging from traditional works to contemporary creations, with holdings that include baskets, beadwork, Hopi Katsina dolls, jewelry, painting, and sculpture. Milestones fits right into that mix, and since it's a preview, you'll be among the first to see these pieces on display. The whole thing runs from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on November 19.
