Live performance by the Annapolis band Bumpin Uglies, blending reggae, punk, ska and folk at the Crescent Ballroom.
Bumpin Uglies play the Crescent Ballroom on Saturday, October 17. The show is presented by Universatile Music and is 21+.
They're a five-piece from Annapolis, Maryland, formed in 2008 around a core lineup that's stayed together for a long time: Brandon Hardesty on vocals and lead guitar, Brent Schraffenberger on bass, T.J. Haslett on drums, Ethan Lichtenberger on keys, trombone, trumpet, and backing vocals, and Will Lopez on saxophone. With that many horns in the mix, the sound is built around a full brass section rather than just a rhythm section.
Their discography includes the albums Go Folk Yourself, Mid-Atlantic Dub, and Lyrics Over Everything. The three titles point toward the different directions they pull from: reggae rhythms, punk spirit, ska grooves, and folk storytelling. It's a wide spread of styles that they pull together into a single set, and they've built a dedicated fan community around it that they call "Uglies Nation."
