Live music by Filipino-American singer Ang Sirena, blending vintage soul, alternative R&B and neo-soul, in the Desert Botanical Garden's 'Music in the Garden: Trailside Tunes' series.
Ang Sirena plays the Desert Botanical Garden on Saturday, November 21, at 5:30 PM. It's a duo set with composer Jesse Espinoza, part of the garden's Music in the Garden: Trailside Tunes series, where you wander the desert trails to find live, intimate musical acts.
Ang Sirena—which means 'The Mermaid' in Tagalog—is a Filipino-American singer based here in Phoenix. She works in vintage soul, alternative R&B, and neo-soul, and this particular show is a duo performance with Jesse Espinoza, the composer behind her Rose Colored Glasses album. The two have been working together on a duo project due this fall, and on June 26 they released a second single from it. She describes the move toward this duo work as a shift toward a more experimental and liberated creative process.
If you're coming to her for the first time, it helps to know where she started. Her early self-produced projects—the 2023 debut single "Hold Me" and the 2024 EP Alone But Not Lonely—laid the sonic foundation for Rose Colored Glasses, the live-band album she put out in 2025, which led to her first headline tour. Along the way, she's collaborated with several of Phoenix's emerging producers and musicians. When she isn't performing, she hosts Barkada Sessions, an independent-artist showcase that highlights emerging talent from Los Angeles and Phoenix.
