After-school chess club for children aged 8 and up to learn and play chess at the Wyoming Library.
The Wyoming Chess Club is back at the Wyoming Library, and it's a weekly thing, not just a one-off. It runs every Wednesday at 3 PM, right after school lets out, which makes it a pretty easy drop-off for parents in the neighborhood. The club is open to kids ages 8 and up, so it works for elementary schoolers and older students alike.
What's good about it is that it's set up for both ends of the learning curve. If your kid has never touched a piece before, they can come in and learn the game from scratch. If they've already got the basics down, there are other players there to play against. It's one of those things that works as well for a total beginner as it does for someone who's been playing for a few years.
You don't need to bring your own gear, either. The library provides the boards and the clocks, so you just show up. That takes the pressure offโno worrying about losing a piece on the way or figuring out if you have the right set. You just walk in and get a game going.
Every week we pick ๐ the 5 best ๐ things to do in Philadelphia and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

The club is held at the Wyoming Library, 231 East Wyoming Avenue, at the corner of Wyoming Avenue and 'B' Street in Philadelphia. It's a Wednesday afternoon tradition, 3 PM, for anyone 8 and up who wants to learn or play one of the oldest games in the world.
