Book club meeting to read and discuss Toni Morrison's debut novel The Bluest Eye, split across two sessions.
The Wynnefield Book Club is meeting at Wynnefield Library on Tuesday, October 27, to start their latest read, Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye. It's the first fiction title the club has taken on, and they're working their way through it across two sessions rather than trying to tackle the whole thing at once.
This first meeting covers the first five chapters, from the prologue through the Autumn section. If you're coming in fresh, that's the first half of the book, so you'll have plenty to talk about without having to rush through the whole story before the first gathering. The second session follows on Tuesday, November 10, and picks up where this one leaves off, covering chapters 6 through 11βthe Winter and Spring sectionsβto bring the novel to a close.
The club reads and discusses both fiction and nonfiction, and The Bluest Eye was their first fiction selection. It's Morrison's debut novel, widely acclaimed and known for its heavy themes, so splitting it into two parts gives everyone a bit more room to sit with it. You can join for the first half, come back for the second, or do both.
