Workshop on protecting your home and preserving family legacy through wills and legal documents, part of the Will Power Program.
The Will Power Workshop comes to the Dwight Evans Library of West Oak Lane on Tuesday, October 27, from 5:30 to 6:45 PM. It's part of the Will Power Program, a Free Library of Philadelphia initiative that helps homeowners plan ahead, prevent tangled titles, and protect generational wealth through wills and other important legal documents. The program is run with support from AHCPA and Community Legal Services of Philadelphia.
If you've been putting off your will or aren't sure where to start with the legal side of your home, this is exactly the kind of session that makes it manageable. The focus is on protecting your home and preserving your family legacy, so it's less about the abstract and more about the practical steps of keeping your property and your assets where you want them to be.
The venue itself has a bit of a story. The Dwight Evans Library of West Oak Lane first opened on August 26, 1957, and welcomed 2,000 visitors in its first hour. It was almost entirely destroyed by fire in 1980, re-opened in 1985, and was renovated in 2000 as part of the 'Changing Lives' campaign. If you find yourself with a few minutes to spare before the session starts, the library's picture book area holds abstract mask-form sculptures by artist Charles Searles, which reflect his American, African, and Native American heritage.
