Exclusive preview evening for Visionaries donors of the reimagined Egypt Galleries, with curator Jennifer Houser Wegner, beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres.
The Penn Museum is opening the doors to its reimagined Egypt Galleries: Life and Afterlife on Thursday, December 10, for a preview that runs from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. It's an evening open by invitation to Visionaries donors and invited guests, so if you're on the list, it's a first look at the galleries in their new form.
The night centers on the galleries themselves, and you'll hear from Jennifer Houser Wegner, Ph.D., Curator in the Egyptian Section, who'll be there to talk through the work. The reimagining covers Life and Afterlife, so the galleries trace the span from daily existence in ancient Egypt to the beliefs and preparations that followed it—the kind of broad sweep that usually takes a few hours to really sit with, and you'll have the space to yourself before the general public arrives.
It's not just a walk-through, either. There will be beer, wine, and hors d'oeuvres, and the museum's curators and leadership will be in the room, so you can talk shop with the people who actually put the galleries together. If you've spent any time in the Egyptian section before, it'll be interesting to see what's shifted and what's stayed the same.
