Free hands-on CPR training session by The Mobile CPR Project, a Penn Medicine community initiative, on how to respond to cardiac arrest and use an AED.
The Mobile CPR Project is coming to the Parkway Central Library on Friday, October 30, for a hands-on CPR training session. It's a Penn Medicine community initiative that takes the training on the road, bringing it to people rather than making them go to a clinic or a classroom. If you've never learned CPR, this is a low-pressure way to pick it up.
There are three main things you'll walk away with. First, you'll learn how to recognize and respond to cardiac arrest—knowing when someone is actually in trouble and what the immediate signs are. Second, you'll learn hands-only CPR, which is the version that doesn't require mouth-to-mouth, so you can focus on the chest compressions. Third, you'll get a run-through on how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), those boxes you see on walls in public buildings that walk you through the process with voice prompts.
Because it's a hands-on session, you're not just watching a presentation; you'll actually practice the movements. The goal is to get you comfortable enough with the steps that you'd feel okay stepping in if you ever found yourself in that situation. It's the kind of thing most of us mean to learn eventually but never quite get around to, and having it come to a library makes it a lot easier to just show up and do it.

The session is at the Parkway Central Library in the Science and Wellness area, starting at 3 PM on Friday, October 30. It's free, so you can just drop in and walk away with a skill you'll hopefully never have to use, but will be glad you have if you do.
