Screening of the documentary 'The Kid Officer', about Holocaust survivor Fred Biermann's escape from Vienna, directed by John Rokosny, with talkback, at The Weitzman.
The Kid Officer screens at The Weitzman on Monday, November 16, from 7 PM to 10 PM. It's a documentary about Holocaust survivor Fred Biermann, following his escape from Vienna and his journey to Mandatory Palestine. The screening is part of the 46th Philadelphia Jewish Film and Media Festival, which runs for ten days from November 12 to 21. The festival brings together Jewish international films and digital media from around the world, with a mix of Philadelphia premieres, repertory cinema, and collaborative events with local organizations. The festival is presented by Philadelphia Jewish Film and Media as a program of The Weitzman.
Behind the film is director John Rokosny, an award-winning producer and director with around 30 years of experience across film, television, and music. His previous documentary, They Survived Together, aired nationally on PBS and won a New York Emmy for Best Historical Documentary. Working alongside him is producer Andriette Redmann, an Emmy-winning producer, writer, and interviewer who served in all three roles on both films. She also interviews Holocaust survivors for the USC Shoah Foundation, which was established by Steven Spielberg. The musical group Avon Faire contributed the main theme songs to both productions.
