Weekend workshop on figure sculpture from the model with Colleen O'Donnell at PAFA, exploring anatomy, proportion, gesture and design through clay.
Colleen O'Donnell leads The Figure in Clay workshop at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts on Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8. It's a full weekend of figure sculpture, running 9 AM to 4 PM both days in Room 740 of the Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building, 118-128 North Broad Street. The session is part of PAFA's continuing-education program.
O'Donnell introduces the techniques and tools of figure sculpture, and you work through demonstration and hands-on sculpting from a live model. The focus is on anatomy, proportion, gesture and design, and the versatility of clay lets you work through those basics while keeping your own expression in the mix. The workshop encourages both representational and abstract approaches, so you can lean toward a more traditional look or push the form into something more stylized. The format is open to all levels and suited for beginners, and advance registration is required.
