Open house for K-12 educators to explore the new Egypt Galleries, meet curator Dr. Jennifer Wegner and earn ACT 48 credits.
The Penn Museum is hosting a Teacher Open House for its new Egypt Galleries: Life and Afterlife on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2027, from 10 AM to 1 PM. It's built for K-12 educators, who can walk the new galleries, meet the curator, and earn ACT 48 credits.
For context, the museum has held one of the largest and most significant Egyptian collections in the U.S. for more than a century. The newly opened galleries put more than 1,000 artifacts on display, spanning four millennia—everything from monumental statues and decorated coffins to papyrus manuscripts and everyday objects. The open house lets teachers experience that scale firsthand.
Curator Dr. Jennifer Wegner and the museum's educators lead the session. They run inquiry-based activities that look at how ancient Egyptians lived, worked, worshipped, and prepared for the afterlife, so you'll see the collection through a pedagogical lens rather than just as a visitor. The museum is also offering new Ancient Egypt K-12 workshops and tours, which you can get a better handle on while you're there.
