Free Halloween taproom with seven fright zones, animatronics and horror movie posters at Evil Genius Beer Co. in Fishtown.
Evil Genius Beer Co. has turned its taproom into the Taproom of Horrors, and the decorations stay up through November 1. It's a Halloween takeover of the brewery's space, and if you're in the city and looking for something to do this October, it's a low-stakes way to get into the spirit.
The setup is built around seven different fright zones spread throughout the taproom. Each one has its own theme, and they've brought in animatronics to do the heavy lifting on the scares, so you'll find things moving and jumping when you least expect them. Between the zones, the walls are lined with horror movie posters, which keeps the vibe going even when you're just hanging out with a drink. It's a walk-through experience rather than a seated one, so you can move through the zones at your own pace.
Since it's a brewery, the beer is the constant. You can grab a pint and wander through the zones, or settle in and let the atmosphere work around you. The decorations run all the way through the end of the month, so you don't have to rush in on Halloween night—you've got a few weeks to fit it in. If you're heading there, the brewery is at 1727 N. Front St., in the Fishtown/Kensington area.
