Tactile storytime with textured books and stuffed animal reading buddies for preschoolers, toddlers and babies, introducing them to the Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians.
Kingsessing Library is hosting a tactile storytime on Saturday, October 24, at 10:30 AM, and it's one of those Saturday morning library things that's actually built for the youngest readers. The session is aimed at preschoolers, toddlers, and babies, so it's a good fit if you've got a little one who's just starting to get into books.
The storytime is all about touch: textured books and stuffed animal reading buddies are part of the experience, so the kids get to feel and hold things while they listen rather than just sitting still. It's a tactile way to introduce them to reading, and the stuffed animals give them something to hold onto while the stories are being read aloud.
Beyond the stories, the session is an introduction to LAMP, the Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians, and to the library services available to Pennsylvanians with visual and print disabilities. It's a good chance to see what's out there for readers who need more than just standard print. The Free Library of Philadelphia is sharing the storytime during Dyslexia Awareness Month, which runs throughout October, so the whole thing fits into that larger conversation about different ways of reading and learning.
