24-hour fiber fest and fundraiser where participants knit winter gear for people in need, with contests, raffles and beginner and child-friendly hours.
Tacony LAB is hosting its Third Annual Knit-A-Thon at the Tacony LAB Community Arts Center, 6918 Torresdale Avenue, from noon on Saturday, November 14, to noon on Sunday, November 15. It's a full 24-hour fiber fest and fundraiser that turns handwork into winter gear for people in need. The whole thing runs as a continuous craft circle, with people working around the clock, so you can drop in for a few hours or settle in for the long haul.
If you're not a seasoned knitter, there are child-friendly and beginner hours to get you started, and guided stretching breaks to keep you from locking up while you work. There's also a "best dressed in your own makes" contest, plus raffles, games, and prizes throughout the weekend. The prizes come from Wawa, Blick, American Mortals, Lush, and friends of the LAB.
Everything made during the event—every handmade hat, scarf, and mitten—goes to The Block Gives Back's Warm Clothing Drive for distribution across the community. Ticket and raffle proceeds support Tacony LAB's free programming throughout the year. This edition is made possible by Mural Arts Philadelphia, Tacony Together, and Councilmember Mike Driscoll.
