A family Halloween event with trick-or-treating, costume parade, live science shows and hands-on activities at The Franklin Institute.
The Franklin Institute is turning into a Halloween party on Saturday, October 24, for Spooktacular Science Day. It runs from 11 AM to 3 PM, so it's a midday thing rather than a night out—the kind of afternoon you spend with the kids before the actual trick-or-treating starts later that evening.
The day is built around a few classic Halloween traditions. There's trick-or-treating throughout the museum, a costume parade for everyone to show off what they've put together, and plenty of slime to go around. They're also running live science shows and hands-on activities, so the science part of the day stays front and center even with the costumes and candy.
If you haven't been in a while, it helps to remember what you're walking into. The Franklin Institute is Pennsylvania's most visited museum, with three floors of interactive exhibits. You've got The Giant Heart, Changing Earth, and Sports Challenge, along with the indoor SkyBike that lets you pedal above the galleries. There's also a five-story IMAX screen, a 3D Theater, and a Planetarium, so if you arrive early or stay late, there's plenty to do beyond the Halloween events.
