Halloween night with a screening of F.W. Murnau's 'Nosferatu' and live cello, followed by the Milonga Qilombo with DJ Meredith Klein and live music by Fede Diaz and Rodrigo Avalos.
Philadelphia Argentine Tango School is hosting a special Halloween milonga on Saturday, October 31, and it's a two-part night. It starts with a screening of F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu (1922), the silent horror classic, from 7:30 to 9:15 PM. The film is paired with a live cello performance by Brooklyn-based cellist Agustin Uriburu and an original score by Argentine composer Claudio Pena. It's a one-of-a-kind event that merges cinema and music into an immersive, spine-tingling journey, and it's not a first-timer: it previously played to sold-out audiences at Bad Therapy Bar and Red Pavilion in Brooklyn. There's a ten-minute intermission before the room shifts gears.
At 9:30 PM, the Milonga Qilombo takes over, and the night dances on into the early hours. DJ Meredith Klein will be on the decks, and the live music comes from guitarist Fede Diaz and bandoneonist Rodrigo Avalos, who'll be performing the Troilo-Grela arrangements. Costumes are welcome, so you can lean into the Halloween theme if you're in the mood. The milonga runs until 2:00 AM, so if you stay for both halves, you're looking at a long night of film and dance.
