A night of funk, R&B and dance music headlined by SoundEVR, with Abstract Sounds and Jonill at Black Squirrel Club in Fishtown.
SoundEVR is taking over the Black Squirrel Club on Sunday, October 18, for a night they've titled Back to Black, A Night of Funk, RnB & Dance. It's a three-hour stretch of funk, R&B, and dance music, and SoundEVR is the main feature of the evening. They're sharing the bill with Abstract Sounds and Jonill, so you'll have three different names rotating through the night rather than just one act holding the floor from start to finish.
If you haven't spent much time there, the Black Squirrel Club is a performing-arts venue in Fishtown, housed in a historic 1890s steam plant. The space is split into two distinct rooms, finished with vintage chandeliers, exposed brick walls, and original cobblestone areas, and it serves craft cocktails at repurposed vintage bars. It's a spot that leans into its industrial bones, and the layout gives you a bit of room to move around rather than being stuck in one spot.
Beyond one-off nights like this, the club hosts a weekly jazz jam every Monday night, led by bassist Richard Hill Jr., who assembles a different house band each week. That Monday tradition is a good way to get a sense of the room if you've never been—it's a regular fixture in the neighborhood's music scene, and this Sunday night fits right into that mix.
