Informal evening sewing social for crafters to share, collaborate and learn needle crafts at the Parkway Central Library.
Sew What?! is back at Parkway Central Library on Thursday, October 22, starting at 5 PM. It's an informal, in-person get-together for anyone who crochets, knits, sews, embroiders, quilts, felts, or does any other kind of needle craft. You bring your own project and work on it alongside other people doing the same thing.
One of the best parts is that you don't have to bring everything from home. The room comes equipped with sewing machines, knitting needles, crochet hooks, and a stash of yarn and fabric. If you've never touched a sewing machine before, library staff are on hand to help you learn how to use one or get a handle on other craft tools. It's as much about learning as it is about finishing whatever you've started.
The session is held in Room 108 of the Art Department, which is a destination in its own right. The department houses more than 60,000 books on fine arts and crafts, along with the private library of John Frederick Lewis (1860-1932), a Philadelphia collector and bibliophile. If you run out of ideas for your project, you're sitting right next to a massive collection of art books to flip through.

Sew What?! runs twice a week—Wednesday afternoons and Thursday evenings—so if you can't make this one, there's usually another chance coming up soon. The session is open to adults, young adults, and seniors as part of the library's Arts and Crafts Programs / Workshops and Enrichment. It's free, and it starts at 5 PM on Thursday, October 22, in the Art Department at Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine Street.
