An evening of murder and mystery in tribute to Scooby Doo, with drag and burlesque performances by some of Philadelphia's hottest nightlife performers.
Lucy Moth is putting on a Scooby Doo tribute show at Franky Bradley's on Wednesday, October 21, and it's built around a murder mystery. The whole night is a nod to the cartoon, with the mystery as the thread that ties the acts together. It's a drag and burlesque show, so the comedy and the performance art are what drive it, and it's billed as a tribute to some of the city's hottest nightlife performers.
Moth is presenting the night, and the lineup is a long one: Pretzel Rach, Mz Peaches, Bev, Cyrus K Stratton, Goofy LittleGuy, and Ed Charm. With that many names on the bill, the show is a variety of drag and burlesque acts rather than a single long set, and the Scooby Doo theme runs through the whole thing. It's tagged as comedy, drag, and performing arts, so you'll get a mix of the three.
The venue is Franky Bradley's and its expansion, B.West, at 1320 Chancellor Street in the heart of the Gayborhood. It's a restaurant and nightlife spot known for its food, drinks, and drag and burlesque performances. The place has a long history: it was opened on September 15, 1933, by Frank Block, a South Philadelphia native and former bantamweight boxer, just under two months before Prohibition ended. His Romanian Inn became a family-run landmark that drew stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Dick Clark, Lauren Bacall, Lucille Ball, and Tony Randall. Half the building burned in 1960, so Block bought the property next door and expanded. He died in January 1976.
