Multi-month celebration of all things Rocky with performances, tours, light projections and a meat-punching challenge, marking the 50th anniversary of the film.
Rocky Season runs across Philadelphia from September 29 through December 3, 2026. It's an eight-week celebration of the Rocky franchise, and this particular year marks the 50th anniversary of the first movie, which came out in 1976 and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. The season is citywide, with a good chunk of the action centered around the Rocky Steps outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Reading Terminal Market.
If you've spent any time in the city, you know the steps. There are 72 of them, and in the movie, Rocky climbs them in under 12 seconds. The original Rocky statue was unveiled there in 1982, and these days it draws more than 4 million visitors a year—more than the Statue of Liberty. The whole season leans into that film tourism, with the statue as the center of it all.
Over the eight weeks, the celebration brings together performances, tours, light projections, and a meat-punching challenge. The original film was loosely based on real Philly boxing champion Joe Frazier, and the season opened with the release of The Steps: A Memoir by Sylvester Stallone.
