An exhibition of more than 30 mixed-media works by Rochelle Feinstein examining abstraction, culture, and public life, including a site-specific installation.
Rochelle Feinstein brings The Today Show to The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia from February 21 through May 9, 2027. It's a substantial exhibition—more than 30 mixed-media works—that pulls together paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. The center of the show is a site-specific installation commissioned by the Barnes for the Annenberg Court, produced in collaboration with the Fabric Workshop and Museum. The exhibition is co-organized with the Vienna Secession, Kunsthaus Glarus, and Ludwig Forum Aachen, and it's curated by Neubauer Family Executive Director and President Thom Collins, whose hanging puts the artist's use of gestural expressionism front and center.
Feinstein, born in 1947, is an American artist whose work over the last four decades has moved across a wide range of abstract painting practices—from rigid geometric abstraction to fluid color field—and always with social and political concerns running through it. She describes the things at the center of her inquiry as humor, irony, sex, human stupidity, commerce, art, and politics, and says she sets out to offer a reflection on the state of a culture communicated through painting.
