Community book fair with reading captains and free reading resources for children and families, with lunch provided.
Widener Library is hosting a community book fair this Saturday, October 24, from 11 AM to 2 PM. It's called Reading is My Super Power, and it's built around getting books into the hands of kids and families in the neighborhood. The main draw is the free resources for children and their parents, so if you've been looking to build up a home library without spending a dime, this is a good time to do it.
Reading captains will be on hand throughout the event, which means there are people there specifically to help kids find books they'll actually want to read and to talk about why reading matters. It's not just a table of books to pick from; it's a day set up to get kids excited about reading for its own sake. If you've got little ones who are just starting out or older kids who need a bit of a nudge to get back into it, having someone there to guide them can make a difference.
And there's a practical side to it that makes it easier to stick around: lunch is provided. It's a three-hour window, so you can come in, browse the books, let the kids hang out with the reading captains, and grab a meal while you're at it. It's the kind of thing that works best when you take your time rather than rushing through.
