Drop-in reading session where children from Pre-K to 6th grade read aloud with a local librarian to build their reading skills.
Read with a Librarian! is back at the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library on Tuesday, November 17, for another afternoon of one-on-one reading support. It's a drop-in program, so there's no need to sign up in advance—you just show up and get started.
Here's how it works: your child drops in for a 20-minute session, picks out a book or two from the shelves, and reads aloud with a local librarian. The whole point is to give them a bit of one-on-one attention to help them work through the tricky parts and build their reading comprehension. It's a low-pressure way for kids to get some extra practice and a little confidence boost with a book they actually chose themselves.
The program is designed to support, rather than replace, what they're doing in school, so it works well as a supplement to their classroom reading. It's aimed at children from Pre-K through 3rd grade, though 4th through 6th graders are welcome to join in too. If your kid is in that younger range and could use a little extra encouragement with their reading, this is a great, easy way to get it.
