Early literacy storytime for infants and toddlers under two, with songs, rhymes and a playgroup, part of the Free Library of Philadelphia's Read, Baby, Read programme.
Read, Baby, Read is back at the Fishtown Community Library on Monday, October 26, starting at 11:30 AM. It's part of the Free Library of Philadelphia's early literacy initiative for infants and toddlers under two, which runs across 26 neighborhood branches. This particular session is led by Miss Liz.
If you've never been, it's not your typical sit-still storytime. The whole thing is built around babies and toddlers aged 0 to 24 months, and it turns reading into sing-alongs and dance parties. The session moves through stories, songs, rhymes, and bounces, and it always wraps up with bubbles to end the storytime. After that, there's a playgroup to follow, so you can hang out and let the little ones keep playing. In colder months or when the weather turns, the sessions move indoors.
It's more than just a weekly meetup, too. The wider program includes parent workshops and dedicated 'baby spaces' open for free play. Older siblings are welcome to join in, so you don't have to leave them at home if you're bringing the whole crew. The initiative is run in partnership with community organizations like Reach Out and Read, ELECT, and AlphaCare, and it's made possible by a grant from the William Penn Foundation. It's one of the many things the Free Library does for the city's youngest readers.

If you can't make the Fishtown date, the program runs at other branches as well: Mr. Alec leads sessions on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Oak Lane Library (6614 North 12th Street), and there's another on Thursday, October 22, at 10:30 AM at the Kingsessing Library. The Fishtown session is Monday, October 26, at 11:30 AM.
