Weekly Saturday storytime for infants and toddlers with books, songs, rhymes, bounces and finger-play, part of the Read, Baby, Read early literacy initiative.
Read, Baby, Read Baby Storytime is back at the Northeast Regional Library on Saturday, October 24, at 11 AM. It's part of a series that runs every Saturday from September 12 through December 19, though there's no session on November 28. The sessions are built for children 6 months to 4 years, and older siblings are welcome to join in too.
What you'll find is a mix of stories, songs, rhymes, lap bounces, tickles and finger-playβthe kind of things that keep little ones engaged while they're still learning to sit still. It's a family storytime, so you're there with your kids, not just dropping them off. If you've got a toddler who can't stop moving, that's exactly what the bounces and rhymes are for.
This is part of Read, Baby, Read, the Free Library of Philadelphia's early literacy initiative. It runs across 26 neighborhood branches and is aimed at infants and toddlers under two. The Baby Storytimes are tailored for children 0-24 months with developmentally appropriate books and activities, and the program also offers Baby Playgroups, Baby Dance Parties and parent circles. The library has created dedicated permanent baby spaces open for free play and partners with community organizations like Reach Out and Read, ELECT and AlphaCare. The Free Library stages more than 28,000 programs for all ages each year, and this one is made possible by a grant from the William Penn Foundation.

After the storytime, families can stay for a playgroup, which is a nice way to let the kids burn off some energy and chat with other parents. The Northeast Regional Library is at 2228 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19149-1297. The session starts at 11 AM and it's free.
