A family day with art activities, storytime, and Cambodian dance performances by Khmer Performing Arts and Culture, exploring generational traditions.
The Barnes hosts another PECO Free First Sunday Family Day on Sunday, November 1, from 10 AM to 5 PM. This one is titled Generational Exchange, and it centers on traditions passed from one generation to the next, with a particular focus on Cambodian heritage.
The main feature is Khmer Performing Arts and Culture (KPAC), a community-based organization founded by artistic director Lisa Koung. KPAC works to preserve and sustain Cambodian culture through traditional dance, music, and Khmer language classes, and they'll be performing Cambodian classical and folk dances at 1 PM and 2:30 PM. The two sets highlight the resilience of Khmer identity.
There's more to do throughout the day. Poet and storyteller Leslie D. Hamilton leads storytime sessions from 10:30 to 11 AM and 11:15 to 11:45 AM, weaving together tales, music, movement, and audience participation. Art activities and a collection scavenger hunt run from 10 AM to 4 PM for ages two and up. On top of that, you get free access to the Barnes collection and the exhibition Noguchi to Asawa: Designing Postwar America.
