A nighttime moonlit hike and guided stargazing session led by astronomer Buddy Muhler, suitable for adults and children aged six and up.
Park after Dark: Moonwalk + Stargazing comes to Lemon Hill Mansion on Tuesday, October 20, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's a two-part evening: a moonlit hike along the Lemon Hill Rim Trail followed by a guided look at the moon and planets through a high-powered telescope. The hike covers about a mile of open parkland and hilly trails, and it's open to adults and children ages six and up.
Leading the night is Buddy Muhler, an astronomer and science educator who's spent more than 15 years operating telescopes and teaching the public. He's worked with The Franklin Institute and The Academy of Natural Sciences, so he knows how to point out what's actually worth seeing in the sky rather than just letting you squint at a blur. The telescope part of the evening is guided, which means you'll get a sense of what you're looking at instead of just hoping for the best.

Logistics are straightforward: the group meets at the Morton McMichael Statue at the intersection of Lemon Hill Drive and Sedgely Drive in East Fairmount Park. From there, you'll head out on the Rim Trail for the mile-long walk before settling in for the stargazing. The whole thing runs from 6 PM to 8 PM, and tickets are $15.
