Fall finale of Open Streets with a Rittenhouse Farmers' Market extension, trick-or-treating, pumpkin painting, live music and double dutch lessons on car-free streets.
Open Streets: West Walnut returns to Walnut Street on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 10 AM to 5 PM. It's the fall finale of the series that closes parts of Center City's shopping district to cars on select Sundays, and this one takes over Walnut from Broad to 19th streets, plus 18th Street from Chestnut to Locust—nearly eight blocks closed to traffic. It's organized by Center City District and presented by Fulton Bank, with support from Rittenhouse Row and the City of Philadelphia. The day runs rain or shine, with cancellation only in severe weather.
For the first time, the Rittenhouse Farmers' Market extends right onto Walnut Street, with ten local vendors brought in by Center City District and Farm to City, open from 10 AM to 5 PM. There's a Trick-or-Treat Trail through participating shops, pumpkin painting at noon in the Fulton Fun Zone, and a monster-making activity from noon to 2 PM. Mini golf and strolling bubble artists will be out throughout the day, too.
Live music is spread across the afternoon. The WhoaPhat Brass Band plays from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, and in the afternoon, Philly Girls Jump gives double dutch lessons from 2 to 3 PM, followed by the Philadelphia Freedom Marching Band from 3 to 4 PM. Between the bands, the market, the treats, and the activities, there's enough to keep you out for a few hours without having to move far.
