After-hours evening with live music by Mixed People, a bug taxidermy workshop, basement tours and the Ivette Chaires exhibition at Philadelphia's Magic Gardens.
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens hosts the October edition of Twilight in the Gardens on Friday, October 23, from 7 PM to 10 PM. It's the final night of the series for the year, which runs on the fourth Friday of each month from May through October. The whole idea is simple: the museum stays open after hours, and each evening pairs a live musical performance with a guided art workshop, both set inside the mosaicked labyrinth.
For this one, Mixed People, led by Paulette Branson, provides the live music. Alongside that, Teaching Artist Avery Demarest leads a bug taxidermy workshop. The two run as part of the same night, so you can move between the performance and the workshop as you like. Between the music and the making, there's plenty more to do: you can take a self-guided tour of the museum's mosaicked basement—a part of the site that doesn't usually see visitors—and spend time in the galleries with Viviendo a través de la muerte: Obras de Ivette Chaires / Living Through Death: Works by Ivette Chaires.
The night is built for lingering. The museum encourages you to bring your own booze, blankets, and snacks and picnic right in the labyrinth, so you can settle in and let the evening stretch out. It's a BYOB affair, and the whole thing runs from 7 PM to 10 PM at 1020 South Street.
