Screening of the 1922 silent film 'Nosferatu' accompanied by a live cello performance from Agustín Uriburu, followed by the school's monthly milonga, Milonga Qilombo.
Philadelphia Argentine Tango School is bringing a silent film classic to the city on Saturday, October 31. They're screening F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu, the 1922 German expressionist horror film, with a live cello score played by Agustín Uriburu. The screening runs from 7:30 PM to 9:15 PM at the school, located at 2030 Frankford Ave.
Uriburu is a Brooklyn-based cellist, guitarist, composer, and arranger born in Buenos Aires. His work pulls from jazz, South American folklore, rock, and classical music, and he leads the Brooklyn String Collective. He's performed with the Jonas Brothers, Ben Platt, Nick Jonas, Leo Genovese, and Uri Caine, and has appeared on Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning recordings with Residente. For this screening, he's playing an original score by Argentine composer Claudio Peña, an arrangement that has played to sold-out audiences at Bad Therapy Bar and Red Pavilion in Brooklyn.
The night doesn't end with the credits. After the screening, the school hosts its monthly tango dance, Milonga Qilombo, and costumes are welcome. If you're planning to stay for the dancing, there are discounted tickets for Nosferatu attendees.
