Multiplayer Nintendo Switch 2 gaming session on the big screen for children and their caregivers at the Fumo Family Library.
Nintendo Thursdays! is back at the Fumo Family Library on Friday, October 23, starting at 3:30 PM. The whole thing is built around multiplayer Nintendo Switch 2 gaming on the big screen, and it's open to children and their caregivers, so it's one of those afternoons you can bring the kids along for.
If you haven't spent much time there, the Fumo Family Library is that bright yellow building on South Broad Street, right next to the South Philadelphia Charter School for Performing Arts. It's a spot with a bit of history behind it: the branch has gone by three names over the years, starting as the South Philadelphia Branch, a brick Carnegie library that opened on November 24, 1914. For a while it was the Ritner Children's Library—the only branch in the system devoted exclusively to children—before becoming the Fumo Family Branch, named after the Fumo family of South Philadelphia. The ground it stands on was once small farms and marshlands, and the site had been held by the same Swedish family for more than 200 years. If you're looking for it inside, there's a mural by Marie Garafano called Waiting for the Train hanging above the circulation desk.
