Free guided tour by bus through North Philadelphia, with artists and cultural workers pointing out murals, community gardens and spaces of Black culture and resistance.
Neighborhood Jawnts is running a guided tour through North Philadelphia on Friday, October 16, with the group meeting at the Independence Visitor Center at 599 Market St. From there, the Neighborhood Jawnts Bus takes everyone up into North Philly, where the tour spends about 90 minutes on foot. It's run by Philadelphia 250, and each group is capped at 35 people, led by a tour guide and a local host.
The route is built around the artists, cultural workers, and institutions who can point to where art is and was created in the neighborhood. You'll pass murals, community gardens, and local spaces where art, innovation, and grassroots leadership are reshaping the urban landscape—from historic centers of Black entrepreneurship to public art and community-driven revitalization. The whole thing is meant to honor the area's cultural legacy, and because it's led by a local host, you're getting the neighborhood's story from someone who knows it.
It's an all-ages tour, so it works whether you're coming solo or bringing the family. The bus handles the trip to and from the neighborhood, which keeps the focus on the walk itself rather than the logistics of getting there. New tour dates are being added weekly through October 2026, so if the 16th doesn't work for you, there are other options to choose from.
