Open-call drag show with performers competing for a $100 cash prize, hosted by Jenny Henny and Yari.
Nationals is back at National Mechanics on Monday, October 20, as part of its ongoing Monday night run in Old City. It's Philadelphia's open-stage drag show, and the format is pretty straightforward: a rotating cast of performers takes the stage to road-test new material in front of a live audience. The lineup changes every week, so you'll see a different mix of newcomers, rising performers, and seasoned queens, kings, and wild cards. The whole thing is hosted by Jenny Henny and Yari of Henn House.
Because it's an open stage, the night functions as a testing ground. Performers use it to work out new numbers before they go into a more formal set, and the audience gets to see them do it in real time. The variety is part of the drawβyou might see a first-timer alongside a veteran who's been around the city for years, both competing for the same $100 cash prize. If you're a performer yourself, sign-ups open on Thursdays at noon through the Henn House Instagram.
This particular date is one of several coming up: the show runs every Monday night at National Mechanics, with the series continuing through Monday, February 2, 2027. The October 20 show is followed by another on October 26, and then November 2 and 9. Each night lasts about three hours, so it's a full evening rather than a quick stop.
