Weekend workshop on mixed media art and collage with instructor Anthony Ciambella at PAFA, covering traditional and non-traditional materials.
Anthony Ciambella is leading a mixed media collage workshop at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1, 2026. It runs from 9 AM to 4 PM both days, so it's a full weekend of working in the studio. The class is held in Room 610 of the Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building, at 118-128 North Broad Street.
Ciambella presents mixed media collage as a medium of endless possibilities, where you combine papers, photographs, and 3D elements to make a statement, convey something personal, or build something textural, colorful, and beautiful. You'll draw on memory, literature, and film as starting points and work with a range of traditional and non-traditional materials. The sessions cover the characteristics of adhesives, paper and fabric cut-outs, and wood and plastics, so you'll get a handle on how different materials behave together.
It's open to all levels, and the weekend includes one-on-one instruction and open discussion of students' ideas. Construction, storage, and presentation strategies are also on the agenda, which is the kind of practical stuff that usually gets skipped over but actually matters when you're working with a lot of separate pieces. The course is part of PAFA's continuing education weekend workshop program.
