Monthly discussion by the Military History Club on the British change of heart in the American Revolution and the American Peace Commission.
The Military History Club meets at Parkway Central Library on Thursday, November 12, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. This month's discussion focuses on the British change of heart during the American Revolution and the American Peace Commission, two connected pieces of the puzzle that helped bring the war to a close.
The club is a monthly discussion group run by the Free Library of Philadelphia's Newspapers and Microfilm Center, part of a broader series that connects Philadelphia history with local topics. It's a casual, conversation-driven format rather than a formal lecture, so you can come and listen or jump in with your own thoughts. If you've always been interested in the Revolutionary War but haven't had a reason to dig into the diplomacy side of it, this is a good place to start.
Knowing the context helps, too. The Newspapers and Microfilm Center houses the region's largest collection of Philadelphia-area newspapers on microfilm—more than 400 titles dating back to 1720—and provides electronic access to historic press through the Philadelphia Inquirer Digital Archive (1860-2001) and ProQuest's Historical Black Newspapers (1893-2010). The club's focus on local history fits right in with that archive.
