Author visit in which Jaylene Clark Owens reads her picture book 'A Black Girl and Her Braids' with songs and activities for children.
Jaylene Clark Owens is coming to the Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional Library on Wednesday, October 21, for a reading of her picture book A Black Girl and Her Braids. It's a morning event, starting at 10 AM, and it's built for kids in the 3-to-8 range.
If you've got little ones, this is one of those easy mid-week outings. The reading is the center of it, but Owens is pairing the story with songs and activities, so it's not just sitting and listeningโthe kids get to move and participate. It's the kind of thing that works well for that age group, where they can follow the story and then burn off some energy with the music and activities that go along with it. The book itself, A Black Girl and Her Braids, is a picture book, so it's meant to be seen as much as heard.
It's a good fit for a Wednesday morning if you're already out with the kids or looking for a reason to get them to the library. The library is the Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional, over at 68 West Chelten Avenue, right at the corner of Greene Street and Chelten Avenue in Philadelphia. It's a regional branch, so it's a familiar spot for a lot of families in the Northwest.
