High-intensity haunted house with more than 40 scare actors, animatronics and special effects inside a former textile mill in Manayunk, inspired by Hurricane Ida's 2021 flooding.
Lincoln Mill Haunted House is back in Manayunk for its fifth season, running select nights from September 26 to November 7. It's a high-intensity, story-driven haunt set inside a former textile mill at 4100 Main Street, right along the Schuylkill River. This year they've added three new rooms to the mix, and the whole thing is built around a narrative that's actually tied to the building's own history.
The story takes its cue from a real event: Hurricane Ida's historic flooding of the mill in September 2021. The flood damaged the interior and revealed a hidden basement chamber containing human remains, and the haunt's plot picks up from there. Investigators traced the horror back to the 1930s, when the mill's owner, Viktor Kane, allegedly ran a covert 'Labor Efficiency Program' out of the basement infirmary. He injected workers with serums that sharpened reflexes and deadened pain but dissolved their identity, before they were taken deeper into 'the Chamber.' The story is fleshed out with a cast of characters: manager Sylas Grimshaw, night watchman Edwin Leech, the seamstress Gretchen, and the informant Delores.
Inside, the experience is a full-on production. More than 40 live scare actors work the floors, supported by animatronics, flashing lights, and special effects. The haunt doesn't stop at the building's walls, either—there's an outdoor Mill Yard experience that uses projection mapping to pull the atmosphere out into the open air. Between the live actors and the tech, it's a lot to take in at once.
