Halloween-themed Library Mixtape club session with WRTI, co-hosted by Zev Kane, with haunting orchestral music from opera, ballet and horror film scores and BYO vinyl.
Library Mixtape is teaming up with WRTI for a Halloween-themed listening session, Classical Fright Night, on Wednesday, October 28, at the Parkway Central Library. The night is co-hosted by Zev Kane, WRTI's Classical Program Director and Classical Host, who'll lead a program of haunting orchestral music that pulls from opera, ballet, and horror film scores. It's a BYO vinyl night, so you're encouraged to bring your own records to add to the mix.
If you haven't come across it before, Library Mixtape is a club for listening to and talking about vinyl, meeting on the last Wednesday of every month from 5:30 to 7:30 PM with a different theme each time. The format is flexible—built around BYO vinyl, guest co-host DJs, and librarian-led journeys through the library's record collections—and it's open to everyone from people just starting to get into records to avid crate diggers. This particular session is staged with WRTI, the member-supported, non-commercial classical and jazz station serving Greater Philadelphia and a broadcast service of Temple University.
Zev Kane brings a deep background to the co-host role: he's a former Music Director at WQXR in New York and has spent his career programming, presenting, and writing about classical music. He'll be the one steering the evening's program of haunting orchestral works, and since it's a Mixtape night, the BYO element means the records you bring can sit right alongside the selections he's putting together.
